Obituary of Helen Betty Brandhorst
Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty was born and raised in Schenectady, NY, graduated from Nott Terrace High School, and was employed by General Electric Co. following graduation. She married her junior high school sweetheart, Helmut Brandhorst, in 1948 after he returned from active duty in World War II. Betty and Hank celebrated their 61st anniversary this past June. She devoted most of her time to raising their five children in Colonie, E. Glenville, and Camillus New York and Burton, Ohio. Betty and Hank retired to Moorehead City, NC before moving to Westfield in 1993. She was involved with art and creative endeavors throughout her life - ceramics, printmaking, sewing, gardening, cooking, quilting and knitting. In Burton, Betty worked with the Historical Society where she was instrumental in organizing their first show of Amish quilts as well as the Raccoon County Music Festival of bluegrass music. She was a past president of the Westfield Quilt Guild. Betty was known for her love of nature, her sunny optimism, and her devotion to family and friends. Everyone who knew her loved her - we will miss her dearly, as our lives will not be the same without her.
