Obituary of Grace Leone

WESTFIELD - Grace Leone, age 92, of Academy Street, Westfield, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at home. Grace was born on September 11, 1917 in Westfield, the daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Vetillaro) Yacklon. A Westfield resident all her life, Grace was a graduate of Westfield Academy class of 1936. She assisted her late husband Mike in the operation of the family fruit and vegetable farm on Academy Street in Westfield, where Mr. Leone was born. She was a member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the church's Altar and Rosary Society. Grace was an accomplished quilter and was a member of the local Quilters Guild. She loved to tend to her flower garden and make wine. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Upon retirement she and her late husband enjoyed traveling and visiting family. However, her greatest love was for her family. Mrs. Leone was a member of the Women of The Moose Chapter 517, the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion Auxiliary, and the Wm. P Jackway Post 6764 VFW Auxiliary, all of Westfield. She is survived by her daughter, Joanna Erskine of Fairhope, AL and her two sons: Frank Leone of Washington, WV, and Charles Leone of North Ridgeville, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Diann Schnell of New Albany, OH, Wendy Leone of Dayton, OH, Brian Leone of Manassas, VA, and Carli Leone of Twinsburg, OH. She is further survived by her sister, Frances Catalano of Westfield, NY She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Leone, whom she married on November 11, 1939 and who died on January 17, 1998 and by her brother, Carl Yacklon. Friends may call on Friday from 5:00PM until 8:00 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11:00AM at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield with the Rev.
