WESTFIELD - Martin S. Bova, Sr., age 86, of Jefferson St., Westfield died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at home surrounded by his entire family following an extended illness.
Martin was born on August 19, 1924 in Westfield, the son of the late Dominic and Mary (Rotunda) Bova.
A graduate of Westfield Academy, Martin was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Pacific Theater with Coastal Artillery.
A Westfield resident all his life, Martin had been employed by GE for 42 years as an electrician. He had worked on his families grape farm as a child, and then worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad prior to joining GE. He was an avid hunter, gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed traveling and RV camping. He journeyed to Italy twice to the birth place of his mother. Extremely handy, Martin was able to fix anything that you gave him. He had been a HAM Radio Operator. Martin's family was most important to him. He was a true gentleman.
Martin was a member of the GE quarter Century Club and greatly enjoyed attending the annual picnic. He was a member of John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion, Wm. P Jackway Post 6764 VFW, both of Westfield and St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife: Maryellen (Soldano) Bova, whom he married on Sept. 24, 1955 in Jamestown, NY, his one daughter: Mary (Bill) Thompson of Westfield, NY and three sons: Marty (Barb) Bova, Jr. of Mayville, NY, David (Marcella) Bova of Westfield, NY, Marion M. (Lori) Bova of Falconer, NY, 12 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his 5 brothers, Salvatore, Joseph, Adolph, Paul, and Angelo and his 5 sisters, Ida Loupe, Mamie Bova, Venera Gervase, Elizabeth Mata and Josephine Berlin
Friends may call on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 10:00 at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church (formerly St. James Major), 15 Union Street, Westfield with Father Marius J. Walter officiating.
Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
