Obituary of Florence Elizabeth Swanson

WESTFIELD, NY - Florence E. (Rooney) Swanson, age 78, of 5 Billsboro, St., Westfield, NY, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at Westfield Memorial Hospital. Flo was born on May 12, 1932 in Corry, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late James and Ruth (Bromley) Rooney. A Westfield resident for over 30 years Florence had previously resided in the Sherman, NY area. She had been employed by Better Baked Foods in Westfield for many years retiring in the late 1990's. She enjoyed doing many things at home including cross word puzzles, embroidery and crocheting. However, her main love was staying home and spending time with her family. She is survived by her two children Wanda S. Hopkins and Darren L. Peterson both of Westfield, NY, her grandchildren, Stacey Kowalski of Dunkirk, NY, Steven Hopkins of Brocton, Michael Hopkins of Florida Keys, and Fredrick and Byron Peterson both of Westfield, as well as Eight great-grandchildren. Flo is further survived by her six sisters, Opal, Roberta, Ellen, Barbara, Shirley and Mabel, and her five brothers, Jim, Bill, Wally, Tom and Jerry. She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Verner Swanson, whom she married in 1980 and who died in 1996. Friends may call on Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 4-7 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY. Funeral services and burial will be private.
