Dear Mary Ellen & Family, I'am so sorry for the loss of your husband, father, and grandfather. David was a wonderful man and taught me many lessons in the delightful two years I spent taking care of him and working for you, Mary Ellen. The two years spent taking care of both of you were some of the best times spent of my life. Thank you for being like a second family to me. David and you, Mary Ellen, touched my life deeply and helped me become a better person. I will always have fond memories working for you. I know David is at peace and looking down upon us with his kindered spirit. He will be greatly missed by me. Terry M. Wood

My very dear Ross family,I’m so sorry to hear about Dave. He was a man of warmth and wisdom and I feel very lucky to have known him. I have many fond memories of time spent with him but the one that stands out is the summer evenings at the pond, full of fun and laughter, surrounded by his family. He was a happy man and he lived the fullest of lives. I know that thought will bring you comfort, now and in the days to come. My thoughts and prayers are with you.Love from Dorcas

Mary Ellen,David was such a wonderful father to Steve and Jean. We remember the wonderful times that he came out to visit all of us in Seattle. Steve would always talk about his time growing up on the farm. Steve and Chris had much fun and enjoyed thier visits with Dave to Maine. I know he will be a very missed father and husband. We are sorry for your loss. We are sure that he is at peace with his maker keeping an eye on all of us.

Dear Mary Ellen and family,I was saddened to hear from Steve of Dave's passing. Dave was a welcoming figure when we were teen agers, the curmudgeon on the outside never obscuring his genuine affection for his children and their friends, even when we gave him cause for aggravation. And we gave him plenty . . . . I was lucky enough to get to know Dave as an adult, too, covering the Town Board meetings after I graduated from college, and to see a person of competence, creativity, balance, and generosity, from whose dedication our town benefitted for many, many years. I also remember Dave's surprising sense of humor. The raised eyebrow, the sly grin, the quick punchline. It was kind of eye-opening to meet a guy whose gruff exterior camoflaged a keen observer of human foibles. Dave was a good man, a man our community was fortunate to have. He'll be missed. The extended Ross family will be in our hearts and prayers. We hope Dave's life will be celebrated this week, as well it should be.Much love,Chris Mead

To the amazing Ross Family:I have been blessed to have known such a wonderful man as Dave and his family. I have heard so many stories on how and what he was before his illness. I could only know Dave as a true, kind, hard working faithful man to his family, friends, community and farm. The last year and half has been been an experience of inspiration and joy. I cherish the moments I had with Dave, and will forever carry on what he has brought to my life. My deepest sincere regrets to Mary Ellen, Dave, Steve, Jean, and Howard.

In the mid 70's I worked picking grapes for Dave and Mary Ellen and I was asked if I wanted to prune grapes and do more on the farm. I was between my college years and I worked for Dave and Mary Ellen for over a year. I had only worked for him for a month or so and my car would not start at the end of the day. Dave told me to take HIS new truck home to Jamestown and they would look at my car in the morning. I never forget that Dave would trust someone he did not know with his new vehicle. Later he gave me a good recommendation when I accepted a greenhouse job in California. The place wanted to know that I was a worker and not just a academic person. I am grateful for Dave and Mary Ellen and his willing workers. Dave was a real gentleman and he treated people in a sensitive way. My deepest sympathy to Mary Ellen and his family.
