Obituary of Mary Louise Horton

Mary Lou Horton 83, of Westfield, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Heritage Park in Jamestown, NY.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mary Lou was born on October 19, 1939 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late Donald and Emma (Paden) VanDyke.  She married the love of her life Robert “Bob” Horton on November 8, 1958 in Westfield and he preceded her in death on December 2, 2005.

She was a lifelong area resident attending Westfield Academy and Central School. Mary was a devoted mother and homemaker raising three sons with her husband Bob. She worked for more than 29 years for the Westfield Police Department as a crossing guard. The children loved to see Mary Lou when they were going to and coming from school. She enjoyed getting to know them personally and they held her in high esteem.  Mary Lou also assisted with traffic control during the annual Westfield Arts and Crafts Festival.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, family gatherings, her poodle Buddy and riding her three wheeled bicycle with her best friend Mary Belle Smith. In her younger years Mary Lou also enjoyed camping, fishing with family and riding mopeds with her husband Bob. 

 She is survived by three sons, Paul (Celeste) of Hartfield NY, David (Sally) of Westfield NY and Steven (Jeanette) Horton of North East PA; five cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Sara, Justin, Jacob and Jenna; a cherished great-grandchild, Danika; also a brother, James (Barbara) VanDyke.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St. Westfield on Wednesday, October 4^th, 2023 from 4-7 PM, where a memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 5^th, 2023 at  11 AM. Interment will follow at the Westfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contribution to Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue
