Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joseph P Musso 03/17/1930 – 01/10/2023

Joe was born in Portland, New York, on March 17, 1930, to Italian immigrants Mary and Joseph Musso, in a now abandoned farmhouse along Highway 20. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jane, Helen, Rose, brother George, and niece Arlene. Pa Joe is survived by his children Bill and Jane, his grandchildren, Aron, Adrienne, Jane, and Billy, and great grandchild Elia.

Joe was a star athlete, winning recognition in basketball, baseball, and semi-pro football. In high school, Joe was named Mayor of Westfield after making the final shot of the game to win the county basketball championship.

After serving in the Air Force, he took advantage of the GI Bill to attend SUNY Fredonia and procured a Bachelor of Science in Education. While in college, Joe met his beautiful bride-to-be, Edna Hart. After a romantic courtship, the two were married in 1957. In 1959, William Hart came along, and 13 months later, Jane Phyllis.

1961, he moved with his young family to Beachwood Lane in Plantation, Florida. Joe worked as a school teacher for a few short years before landing in underground utility construction and founding J.P. Musso Construction, a business he successfully ran for several decades. Home life was pool parties, street games, happy hours, lifelong friendships, and good times. On weekends, Joe took up sailing, golf, and tennis. In the 70's, he fell in love with snow skiing and traveled the country with the Fort Lauderdale Ski Club.

When Joe retired in 1992, he explored the country with Blue, his Italian Greyhound. He eventually moved to DeBary, Florida, enjoying retirement. He spent the warm summer months on Lake Erie with breakfast at Jack's, golfing, hiking, and biking near his hometown, Westfield, New York.
After his divorce, Joe entered into a relationship with Maureen Fallar. They were a couple for many years and enriched each other's lives.

Joe loved good food, red wine, a colorful salad, his view of the woods, his family, his original home in Westfield, a good debate, Suduko, and making people laugh. His loved ones will remember his adventurous nature, generosity, infectious laugh, wise insights, and authentic personality. He was truly one-of-a-kind.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St. Westfield, NY on Saturday, February 3, 2023 from 11- 1 PM, where a Celebration of Joe’s life will immediately follow at 1 P.M.
