Obituary of Ruth Martha Gernatt

Ruth Martha Gernatt, age 85, of Erie, PA, formerly of Gowanda, NY, died Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. Mary's Home, Asbury in Erie, PA.
Ruth was born on July 24, 1927 in Collins, NY, the daughter of the late John and Martha (Harms) Gernatt.
Ruth was a 1939 Graduate of St. Joseph's High School and had resided in Fredonia, NY, North East, PA and Warren, PA prior to having her home on East Hill Street in Gowanda, NY. She had resided in Erie for the past several years to be with her family. While in Erie she had attended Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church. Ruth retired from the Rouse Warren County home where she had worked as a Nurse's Aide from 1980 until 1999. She was devoted to her Catholic Faith and was an advocate for the Basilian Missions in Sugar Land, Texas and for the Covenant House for Homeless Children in New York City. She was an avid fisherman who loved to sew and cook. She was known for her wonderful baked goods.
She is survived by seven children, that include daughters; Geraldine Cruz of Puerto Rico, Nancy Yocum of Fredonia, NY, Deahann Harris of Delevan, NY, Charlene Dye of Forestville, NY, Cindy Borrero of Erie, PA, Carla Konzel of Erie, PA and her one son: Carl Borrero of North East, PA. Ruth is further survived by her of one brother, Daniel Gernatt, Sr. and her one sister, Esther Dittenhofer both of Gowanda, NY, as well as 19 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, 5 Step Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her Daughter, C. Dolores Cruz, her Great Grandson, Wyatt Cruz, her three sisters; Marie Gernatt, Helen Engler, and Betty Ann Crandall, and by her four brothers; Msgr. David Gernatt, Francis Gernatt, John Gernatt, Jr., and Paul Gernatt.
Friends may call on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY with Msgr. Al Clody officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
