Obituary of Teresa A Sam

RIPELY - Teresa A. (Bauer) Sam, age 82, of Ripley, NY, formerly of Dunkirk, NY, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Twinbrook Medical Center of Erie, PA. Teresa was born on August 23, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia (Ruhlman) Bauer. A Dunkirk resident for many years, she and her late husband had been the proprietors of the former Sam's Place on Roberts Road. She had been employed by A. Sam and Son of Dunkirk in the offices and retired in 2006. Mrs. Sam was a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church of Dunkirk and had been very active in Church activities and the Church's Altar Guild. She had resided in Ripley since 2006, moving there to be closer to her daughter. While in Ripley she greatly enjoyed being a part of the Ripley Central School Grandparent program to the point in which she actively exercised with the students. She enjoyed puzzle books, reading, and baking. She was an avid collector of spoons from various states and countries. But most of all her family was the love of her life. She is survived by her three daughters, Judith (Martin) Rowe of Ripley, NY, Suzette (Brian) Smith of Gerry, NY, and Samantha (Troy) Way of Wyandotte, MI, her two sons, Paul (Christine) Zimmer and Mark (Josi) Zimmer, her step son, Rev. Albert (Hannah) Sam of Lockport, NY, her two step daughters, Nancy (Johnathan) Carroll and Sadie (Al) Kwiej both of Dunkirk, NY, as well as her sister-in-law, Rev. Helen Sam and her brother-in-law, Esau Sam both of Dunkirk. 27 Grandchildren, 47 Great-grandchildren and several Great-great grandchildren also survive. Teresa was also considered part of the Rowe family, her son-in-laws's family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Sam, who died on December 1, 1991, her two step daughters, Rose Marie Matteson, and Catherine Fancher, her grandson, Briggs Miller, her great granddaughter, Jessica LaVoice, and by her 5 brothers, Bud, Joseph, Ronald, Myron, and Nelson Bauer, and by her 2 sisters, Bernice and Patricia Bauer. Teresa's family will receive friends on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 2-3 PM (1 hour prior to the service) at St. John The Baptist Episcopal Church, 16 W. 4th Street, Dunkirk, NY where a memorial service will be held 3:00 pm with Reverends Albert Sam, Helen Sam and Yvonne Fancher co- officiating.
