Obituary of Beatrice Mae Riedesel

WESTFIELD-Beatrice "Bea" M. Hayner Riedesel, age 91, of Parker Road, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 18, 2013 at home after a lengthy illness. Beatrice was born at home in Ripley on July 16, 1922, the daughter of the late Herman and Anna (Reid) Hayner. She graduated from Westfield Academy High School in 1941 than attended the Orah-Jean Beauty Academy in Erie, PA graduating in May of 1942. She worked as a beautician, owning her own shop called "Bea's Beauty Shop" in her homes for more than 60 years. Beatrice married the love of her life, Herman F. Riedesel, on June 18, 1945 in the First United Methodist Church in Westfield ,NY and were married for 58 years. Together they raised four children. Herman died on May 26, 2003. She was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, sewing and crafting. She was an accomplished hand quilter, making quilts for all of her children and grandchildren, taking pride in all of them. Oil painting was also a hobby. She began cake decorating and became well known for making hundreds of cakes for all occasions in the community. Beatrice was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Westfield for more than 50 years, Lombard, Westfield, and Pomona Granges, National Grape Co-Operative Association, Inc., Lady's Home Bureau, and Logic. She loved traveling and rides in the country and watching her birds. She was a snow-bird herself wintering in Sebring, Fla. for more than 20 years with her husband. Surviving are her children; Wilma(Edward)Benjamin,Robert(Susan)Riedesel,Phillip(Karen)Riedesel all of Westfield and Barbara(Robert)Wetzel of Erie,PA. her grandchildren; James(Amy) Riedesel of Georgia, Lisa (Jeff) Lanphere of Leo,Ind., Karen Riedesel of Rochester,NY; Catherine Riedesel of Turkey, and John Riedesel of West Virginia, and her Great-grandchildren; Derek Lanphere, Julia Beatrice Lanphere, and Dylan Hawkins, several nieces and nephews and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren also survive. Beatrice was a mother and grandmother to many others as well. She was preceded in death by her sisters; Bernice, Beulah Hayner, and Blanche Wolf, along with her brothers Robert, Ross, Roland, and Russell Hayner. Further preceded in death by her grandson Stephen Riedesel. Beatrice's family would like to send a special thank you to all of her wonderful caregivers; Cathy, Donna, Madeline, Becky, and Diane and to her Special Hospice Team of Jackie, Debbie, Marlene, Caitlin, Michelle, Julie, and Chaplain Bill Leslie. Memorials can be made on "Bea's" behalf to the First United Methodist Church of Westfield, 101 East Main Street, Westfield, NY 14787 or to the Chautauqua County Hospice, 20 West Fairmont Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 2-4 PM and again from 7-9 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY 14787 and are invited to attend her funeral service on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Westfield with Pastor Matthew Golibersuch officiating.
