WESTFIELD - Roberta (Newman) Beers, age 87, formerly of Martin Wright Rd., Westfield, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Absolut Care of Dunkirk.
Roberta was born on August 13, 1927 in Silver Creek, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Ruth (Fann) Newman. She graduated in 1945 from Westfield Central School and went to Washington, D.C. and became employed by the US Navy Bureau of Ships during WW II.
She married the love of her life, Donald Beers, in 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Westfield. Roberta worked at the family farm with her husband and raised her three daughters until 1968 when she returned to work for the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Health and retired from the County in 1988 where she had worked for 22 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield and had been very active in Church activities including the Church's Board of Deacons. Roberta was a Board member of the former Westfield United Fund and a former member of the Westfield Mayville Zonta Club.
She is survived by her three daughters: Suzanne (Michael) Wesley of Perrysburg, NY, Catherine (Randy) Wright and Brenda (Donald) Bird all of Westfield . She is further survived by her five grandchildren, Maureen(Brandon) Presto of Westfield, NY, Matthew Alexander and Larry Alexander,Jr. both of Brocton, NY, Nathan Bird of Pennsylvania, Angela (Chris) Spampata of Tonawanda ,NY, and 5 Great Grandchildren ,Sydney, Nicholas, Austin, Isaiah, and Brenden.
She was preceded in death by her Husband Donald E. Beers, who died on January 22, 2011, her infant Son, Robert Beers, her brother, Gordon Newman, her Grandson, Shane Alexander, and her Infant Granddaughter, Samantha Bird.
Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY on Wednesday Sept. 3, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Thursday morning, Sept. 4, 2014 at 11 Am in the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, 49 So. Portage St., Westfield with Rev. Dana Vaughn officiating. Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.
