Obituary of Aino Alice Lowell

MAYVILLE - Aino R. Lowell, 95, died on October 11, 2015 at her home in Mayville, following a few months decline following a fall. Mrs. Lowell was born Aino Alice Rantanen on December 25, 1919 in Newfield, New York, to the late Nestor and Hilja Rantanen. She is predeceased by her husband of sixty-six years, Spencer R. Lowell, Sr. Mrs. Lowell was the youngest of seven children, Lydia, George, John, Aili, Edward, and William, all deceased. Mrs. Lowell is survived by her daughters, Karin Lowell of Staunton, Virginia, and Sandra Lowell Makuch of Mayville, New York, and her sons, Spencer Roberts Lowell, Jr. of Boston Massachusetts and Dr. David Nestor Lowell of Reno, Nevada. She has one grandson, Jeffrey Lowell, and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Cooper Lowell, all of Charlottesville, Virginia. Mrs. Lowell shared a home with her daughter, Sandra, and granddaughter, Aili Makuch, in Mayville, New York, since 2005. Mrs. Lowell retired from teaching in 1976 from the Patchogue-Medford School District, Long Island, New York. She and her husband, Spencer, were volunteers in their community until the age of 80. They were instrumental in organizing Cub Scout Pack 47 and Boy Scout Troop 47, which are still active today. The Lowell's were active members of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Patchogue, New York, for forty-four years. More than anything, Mrs. Lowell loved young people. She made a positive difference in many lives as a teacher, Boy Scout Leader and mother. Funeral services will be private.
