WESTFIELD - Eleanor L. (Beers) Lancaster, age 100, of Westfield, died Friday afternoon, May 13, 2016 at Absolute Care of Westfield following an extended illness.
Eleanor was born on February 14, 1916 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late Pearl A. and Mary B. (Nichols) Beers.
Mrs. Lancaster was a member of First United Methodist Church of Westfield, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was active with the United Methodist Women's Assoc.
She had been a Westfield resident all her life except for several years when she moved to Oldsmar, Fl, where she continued to work for WT Grant Co. in the offices of a newly opened store in New Port Richie, FL. Prior to moving to Florida she had been employed by WT Grant Co. of Westfield for many years. She retired from Grants in 1986.
She had volunteered for many years as a Gray Lady at the Westfield Memorial Hospital.
and had been a home party consultant for Minnesota Woolens, for several years. Eleanor enjoyed making ceramics with several of her friends, and had made her family many ceramic figurines and vases, which they all cherish. An avid reader, she enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, and had raised the house plant variety of African Violets.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis A. Wheeler of Zephyrhills, FL and her son: Richard (Bonnie) Lancaster of Westfield and her sister, Mary Syper also of Westfield. 8 Grandchildren and many Great Grandchildren and also survive.
She was preceded in death by her Husband of 62 years, Carleton Lancaster, whom she married on February 14, 1932 and who died on March 17, 1994, and by her two sisters, Betty Saunders, and Helen Golden and by her brother Donald Beers.
Friends may call on Thursday evening, May 19, 2016 from 6:30 PM until 8PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY. All other Funeral Services will be private with burial in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
