Obituary of John W. Schlick

WESTFIELD - John W. Schlick, age 90, of Erie, PA, formerly of Westfield, NY died peacefully Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie. Mr. Schlick was born March 8, 1926 in Westfield, NY a son of the late Clarence P. and Roberta E. (Prentiss) Schlick. John attended Westfield Academy and Central School. After school, John was drafted to serve his Country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After the war he married the love of his life, Grace L McDaniels, on May 20, 1950 in Silver Creek, NY. They resided in Westfield where they lived many happy years together raising their family and enjoying life. John had been employed by GE in Erie, as well as AJAX / Renold Inc. in Westfield and finally was employed by E.L. Kingan and Co. and later known as Kingan Pharmacy in Westfield, NY as a Store Clerk where he made many friends retiring in 1984. Mr. Schlick was a life member of John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion, the First United Methodist Church, as well as the Westfield Fish and Game Club all of Westfield, NY. He had enjoyed photography, watching ships, trains and planes. John was a music enthusiast who enjoyed listening to Big Band style music especially the Saturday evening Lawrence Welk Show. John also enjoyed playing his piano. He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Grace L (McDaniels) Schlick, their son: Jon R. (Denise) Schlick of Erie, PA and by his two grandchildren; John S. Schlick and Joanna C. Schlick both of Erie, PA. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Phillip W. Schlick, and an Infant son. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from noon until 2:00 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, where funeral services will begin there at 2:00 pm with Pastor Dave Voelker of the East Lake Road Alliance Church of Harborcreek officiating.
