WESTFIELD - Paul C. Odell, age 73, of Bank St., Westfield, died unexpectedly, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at home. Paul was born on August 22, 1943 in Laurel, Mississippi, a son of the late Warren P. and Elberta (Davis) Odell. Raised in Brocton, NY, Paul was a 1961 graduate of Brocton High School and a 1965 graduate of SUNY Fredonia with a BA in English. He went on to earn a MS in Education from SUNY Fredonia in 1986 in addition to graduate hours in secondary school supervision. A Westfield resident since 1970, Paul had been a High School teacher at Westfield Academy and Central Schools for 32 years. He had been active in the Westfield Teachers Association and had been a class advisor to various grade levels of 9-12. He was a member of Inner Lakes Federal Credit Union for 49 years and was a member of the Board of Directors and served on the Personnel Committee. Paul served 3 terms as Westfield Village Justice from 1997 until 2009, and had been a member of the NYS Magistrates Association and the Chautauqua County Magistrates Association where he served three terms as Vice President. Paul was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, where he served as a Deacon and served on the Church Session. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 118, of Westfield and of the Jamestown Vikings Lodge number 65. Paul was an outstanding educator, had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed socializing with his many friends. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet (McCutcheon) Odell, whom he married on August 12, 1972 in Ripley, NY, and by his two daughters, Gena M. (Scott Peritore) Carey of Farmington, NY and Melinda (Christopher) McManus of Rochester, NY. Paul was the proud grandfather of, Christopher, Tyler and Kaleb McManus of Rochester, and Brianna Carey and Tessa Peritore of Farmington. Paul is further survived by his three sisters, Mary Carlson of Mayville, NY, June (Harley) Fink of Dunkirk, NY and Alice Alexander of Westfield, NY, and his one brother: Harold (Karen) Odell of LeRoy, NY, as well as his sister in law, Linda Odell of Sandusky, OH. Also surviving are Paul's very close friends, Brian and Maggie Paternosh and their children Cameron and Griffin, whom he regarded as part of his family. Besides his Parents, Paul was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Patrick Carey and by his brother, Elmer Odell. Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held on Thursday morning, October 20, 2016 at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, 49 So. Portage St., Westfield, NY, with Rev. Katherine Rieley-Goddard officiating. Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.
