WESTFIELD - William S. McMahon, age 78, of Bliss Street, Westfield
died Saturday afternoon, February 2, 2008 at home following a lengthy illness .
Bill was born on June 8, 1929 in Jamestown, NY the son of the late Thomas C
and Mildred (Smith) McMahon.
A Westfield resident since 1932, Bill was a 1947 Graduate of Westfield
Academy and Central School (WACS) and a 1952 Graduate of the University of Buffalo, School of Pharmacy. He was a registered Pharmacist and owner and partner of the former Kingans
Pharmacy, Inc. of Westfield. He and his partner, Donald Nash, closed the
Pharmacy in May of 1984. Bill continued to work as a Pharmacist until his
retirement in 1990. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed refinishing
furniture. He was well known throughout the area as the authority on
refinishing Ice Boxes.
Bill was a member of St. James Major Roman Catholic Church, the Fr.
Daniel Early Council 3100 Knights of Columbus, the Loyal Order Of Moose
Lodge # 118, the Pharmacists Assoc. of WNY and the NYS Pharmacists Assoc.,
and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Bill was also a social member of the Wm. P Jackway Post 6764 VFW and the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion both of Westfield. He had been active in the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, was a WACS Sports Booster and an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence S. "Steve" (Stephan) McMahon, who he
married on September 20, 1952 in Allegany, NY, four daughters: Mary
Ellen (Frank) Carollo of Ithaca, NY, Christine (Darryl) Duink of Hamburg, NY, Susan (Brian) Schuldeis of Royal Oak, MI, and Janet McMahon of Tonawanda, NY and his five sons:
Thomas (Bonnie) McMahon of Harrisburg, PA, James McMahon of Dansville, NY, John
McMahon of Mayville, NY, Joseph (Gail Steinhart) McMahon of Ithaca, NY, and Patrick (Helene) McMahon of Buffalo, NY. 11 Grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Elaine
Marie McMahon.
Friends may call Friday, February 8, 2008 from [2-4 & 7-9 PM at the MASON FUNERAL HOME, 37 Clinton St., Westfield and are invited to attend the Mass
of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. James Major Roman Catholic
Church of Westfield on Saturday morning, February 9, 2008 at 11 AM with
Fr. Joseph Gullo officiating. Private burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
