Obituary of Donna A. Hess

WESTFIELD - Donna A. (Armfelt) Hess, age 88, of East Main Rd., Westfield, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019, at home following an extended illness.

Donna was born on June 26, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Oscar W. and Olive P. (Sando) Armfelt.

She was a graduate of Belleville High School and received her degree as a Registered Nurse from the former Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing and continued her education at the University of Buffalo.  She had been a resident of the Westfield area for over 50 years. Donna had been employed by Westfield Memorial Hospital and retired from there as Assistant Director of Nursing and was in charge of Quality Assurance, Utilization Review and Infection Control. She participated in the Nurses Health Case Study of Boston, MA and was a member of the Buffalo General Nurses Alumni and the WNY Infection Control Assoc.  Outside of healthcare, Donna had been an active member of, and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star-Columbine Chapter #128.

Surviving are her nieces and nephews, that include, Lee Ellen Dowler, Sherri Oswalt, Jim Paulis, Ron Hess, Jr., Lori Robson, Dena Orlando, and Andrew Robson, as well as her sisters in law, Gladys (late Daniel) Hess, Janice (late Jim) Paulis and Linda Stumpf.               

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert L. Hess, whom she married on June 29, 1957 and who died on December 17, 2008 as well as by her sister, Virginia (late Thomas, Jr.)  McGilvery, and by her brothers in law, Ronald and Daniel Hess, and by her nephew, Thomas McGilvery, III

There will be no visitation. Funeral Services will be held in the spring of 2020 at a date and time to be announced.

Private burial will be in Union Cemetery, Westfield, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Donna's memory may be made to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmont Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750 or to the Westfield Stray Cat Rescue, 59 East Main St., Westfield, NY  14787.
