Obituary of Dale D. Bowen, Sr.

WESTFIELD - Dale D. Bowen, Sr., 91, of N. Gale St., Westfield, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at home with family by his side.

   Dale was born July 4, 1928, in Westfield, NY, a son of the late Clement A. and Millie (Welden) Bowen. He was a 1946 graduate of Westfield Academy and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Westfield.

   Dale was a hard worker with many talents. He started off as a farmer’s son and he married a farmer’s daughter, the former Joan Meeder. They were married 64 years before her passing in 2017.  Dale was such a hard worker he would have 2 or 3 jobs at a time.  He helped his in-laws on their dairy farm, tested milk at Vine City on the weekends, delivered movie films from theatre to theatre, pumped gas, repaired farm equipment for Bostwick’s Farm Supply, LaPorte’s Farm Equipment, and finally his own business on Market St., Dale Bowen’s General Repair.  He also built a new house for his young family on Gale Street and did a large part of it himself. Dale was always ready to help people and go the extra mile for them.  He had many loyal customers at his business.  After retirement he stayed right beside the love of his life and supported her.  They loved to drive around Chautauqua County in their RV, get take-out and enjoy it while they checked on the farm.  Our dad will always be remembered for how handsome he was his big smile, his jokes, his work ethic, his honesty, and positive attitude.  In his last years on earth he was surrounded by his family and wonderful caregivers.

  Dale and Joan raised 4 children, Rita Jaynes, (Chris), Dale Bowen Jr., Patti Barger, (Ed), and Elaine Knopp, (Chris), all of Westfield.  Dale was the proud grandfather of, Brenda DeGregory, (Tim), Clayton Jaynes, (Christina), Callie Jaynes, Andrea Lee, (Jeff), Hillary Pattison, (Nate), Laura Luke, (Levi), Elizabeth Leighton, (Dan), Stephanie Anzalone, (Jared). He also has 17 great-grandchildren. Dale is further survived by his brother, Hubert Bowen of Lawrenceville, GA and by his 2 sisters, Jeanette Davis of Conneaut Lake, PA and Elna Meleen of Westfield.

  In addition to his parents, Clement and Millie, and his wife, Joan, Dale was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Calvin, John and Robert Bowen 

  Friends may call from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street in Westfield. All other services will be private. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.
