Obituary of Leon A. Hoesel

Leon A. "Lee" Hoesel, age 66, of Bloomer Rd., Mayville, NY, formerly of Westfield, NY, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Brooks Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Leon was born on August 7, 1953, in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Raymond and a Gloria (LaBeouf) Hoesel.

Lee graduated from Buffalo Schools in 1971 and entered the US Navy, and served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1973.  Lee had been employed as a Custodian for the Brocton School District for several years before transferring to Westfield Schools where he retired from on August 30, 2013 as Head Custodian. Lee had a vast knowledge of Building Maintenance and had an extreme mechanical aptitude. He enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in his yard and his home. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #118 and the Wm. P. Jackway VFW Post 6764, both of Westfield. Lee was well known by family and friends for his famous Banana Bread which he enjoyed baking for everyone!

Lee is survived by his daughter, Kiona Stern and her husband, Robert of Silver Creek NY, and by his brothers, Ronald (Georgianne) Hoesel, Donald (Sandy) Hoesel, and James (Maddie) Hoesel, as well as by his sister, Lori (Dominic) DePonceau. Lee was the very proud grandfather of Brock and Tanner Stern, whom he adored. He is further survived by Tricia, Nadine, Riley and Amira, who were very special to him, as well as by his constant Canine Companion, Whiskers. Many nieces and nephews also survive.             

In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Eugene and Ray Hoesel

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, no visitation will be observed and all current services will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Leon’s name to the Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue, 7540 N. Gale St., Westfield, NY 14787.
