WESTFIELD - William H. ?Bill? Jackson, Jr., age 81, of Union Street, Westfield died Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Westfield Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Bill was born on April 20, 1926 in Centerville, Pennsylvania, a son of the late William H., Sr. and Inez (Eldred) Jackson. Bill was a graduate of Ripley Schools and he served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II from 1944 to 1946 with the 139th Airway Communication System in the Teletype Division, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
A Westfield resident most all his life, Bill was the proprietor and operator of Westfield Builders for over 54 years. He enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable garden, cutting and split wood and mowing his large lawn. Bill never was idle for very long, as he would always find something to do around his home. However, his main love was being with his family.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the Mayville VFW Post 8647, the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion, of Westfield, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 118, also of Westfield. Bill was an accomplished musician who played with the famous Deutschmeister Band of Westfield, where he played, the Trumpet, Baritone, and the E Flat ?Peck? Horn. Bill was ever faithful in the delivery of the Band's equipment trailer anywhere the band would play. He also had served as the Band's treasurer for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Fredrickson) Jackson, whom he married on July 22, 1949 in Portland, New York, and his two sons: Roger W. Jackson of Westfield and Larry A. Jackson of Sherman, NY.
Bill is further survived by his sister, Marjorie Breads of Westfield, and by his three brothers: Terry Jackson of Ripley, NY, Gene Jackson of Randolph, NY and Dennis Jackson of Portsmouth, VA. Bill also is survived by his five grandchildren; Ryan Jackson of Allston, MA; Mark Jackson of Westfield, Stephanie (Jackson) Reed of Sherman, Nathan Jackson of Clayton, NC and Gregory Jackson of Sherman, NY, and by his three great grandchildren, Dylan and Blake Reed of Sherman, and Lily Jackson of Clayton, NC.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Robert Jackson, his sister, Marlene Campbell, and his two brothers, Richard and Robert Jackson.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the MASON FUNERAL HOME, 37 Clinton St., Westfield and are invited to attend the Funeral Services there on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM with Mr. Peter Smith officiating. Burial will be private.
